David D. Stubbs
Managing Consultant

David Stubbs provides consultation, training, and collaborative work in
three areas: David left Tektronix, Inc., in 1997 after 21 years for the opportunity
to work on projects beyond the narrow scope of high tech test and
measurement instruments. At Tek, he last worked in the Customer-Centered
Design group within Tek's Measurement Business Division (precision
instrumentation) Central Engineering organization. As the group's
co-founder and its first manager, David developed and refined many of the
end-user interview methods the group uses to elicit deep work background,
detailed product requirements, design and usability issues, and product
impact on the workplace. While a principal engineer in the Tektronix
Laboratories, TekLabs, he secured
five patents
for visual instrumentation programming techniques. Since striking out on his own, David has worked on diverse projects
including commercial irrigation control software design, Internet
Ecommerce site evaluation, and printer user interface simulation and
testing. David has been a member of ACM and its special interest group on
computer-human interaction (SIGCHI) since 1986. He was audio-visual chair
for the SIG's major conference, CHI'90, and co-chair for CHI'91 and
INTERCHI'93 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He is currently
Chair of CHIFOO, the Computer-Human
Interaction Forum Of Oregon. David is also a member of the
Usability Professionals Society
(UPA). David holds a BS in History from Portland State University (1974).
